Group Obedience Classes
Beginner Obedience Classes for Dogs Four Months and Over.
Beginner obedience training teaches handlers how to train their dogs to master basic obedience exercises and to develop the skills needed to deal with problem behaviours and prevent them developing. You will learn how to use various techniques, employing positive reinforcement, to teach your dog these fun exercises whilst also learning about the importance of teamwork and how to set your dog up for success.
Exercises covered include:
Sit
Stand
Drop
Proper dog-to-dog greetings
Calmness – teaching your dog to settle on cue.
Attention behaviour – dog to offer eye contact.
Recall – teaching your dog to come when called.
Left-side finish
Impulse control – ‘take it’ and ‘leave it’.
Loose lead walking
Target training – nose targeting game.
Heeling
Jumping – learn how to prevent and deal with unwanted jumping.
All classes are fun and interactive with a focus on games and rewards. Tricks are also incorporated into the training sessions.
Intermediate to Advanced Obedience Classes
These classes are designed to build on knowledge of foundation exercises and to enhance your dog’s mental and physical enrichment. These classes not only provide the opportunity to further develop the bond between dog and handler, but they assist in helping to test your dog’s achievements in a more challenging environment. Attending these classes will help to boost your dog’s confidence and help it to be a contented and happy dog, while you will learn to be a more patient and skilled handler.
Exercises covered include:
• Explanation of difference between the ‘stay’ and ‘wait’ command.
Sit stay
Drop stay
Stand stay
Stand for examination – developing confidence.
Distance control
Formal recall – developing off-lead reliability.
Left and right-side finish.
Off-lead heeling to include right, left, left and right about turns.
Retrieve
Jumping – use of ANKC approved equipment.
Sendaway
Scent work
Tricks are incorporated into the training sessions for additional fun for both dog and handler.
